PULLMAN, Wash.— As badly as Idaho exposed the Portland Pilots on Sunday, the Washington State Cougars returned the favor tonight in Beasley Coliseum. The Vandals were manhandled and embarrassed in a 76-64 defeat that was far uglier and more lopsided than the score indicates.
Idaho opened the game matching Washington State score for score, and even took a 4-point lead early on. But from there it was all Cougars, as Ken Bone’s squad opened the second half with a 14-0 run against an uninspired Idaho starting five, and the damage was done. The Vandals shot under 40 percent for the game, under 30 percent from 3-point range.
“I thought we didn’t compete from the start. Vandal basketball needs to expect more than what we got tonight. I’m embarrassed for how we played. We should have given Washington State a better game than that,” Idaho coach Don Verlin said after the game.
We’ll have a complete postgame wrap tonight.
